Polished Run by Peighntmeadiamond Gets Maturity Win
AJAX DOWNS, JULY 9 2026 – At one time, a tall and gangly 2-year-old who showed a lot of talent but needed 11 tries to win his first race, PEIGHNTMEADIAMOND is now a polished stakes winner at Ajax Downs. The Ontario sired and bred 4-year-old Quarter Horse powered to a three-quarter length victory in the $44,280 Ontario Bred Maturity on July 8, upsetting a strong field that included reigning Horse of the Year Had to Be Fabulous.
Sent off at 5 to 1, Peighntmeadiamond had to survive a rider’s objection following the race as Ramiro Castillo on Queen Charlotte claimed foul on the winner.
“He is so lengthy and sometimes coming out of the gate he does that one step to the right or left,” said winning rider Brian Bell. “But he was out and gone and got the job done.”
The claim of foul was disallowed, and Peighntmeadiamond was winning for the fourth time in 17 starts for owner Richard Wincikaby and trainer Joe Tavares. The gelding ran the 400 yard distance in 19.980 for a career-best 99 speed index. Peighntmeadiamond is a son of Wincikaby’s Ontario sire Peighnt Your Fate, and from a Thoroughbred mare, Swingwiththering, a multiple winner at Woodbine racetrack and a daughter of Where’s the Ring.
“He is a great looking horse, and he needed a little time to mature,” said Linda Wincikaby, Richard’s wife. “Joe and Brian deserve a ton of credit for helping him get to this point. It takes a lot of work, patience and love.”
Second-place finisher NIIGAANI, owned by Rick Crispi, is also a son of Peighnt Your Fate.
The Wincikaby’s bred Peighntmeadiamond in partnership with Katie Browne, who acquired Swingwiththering about five years ago. “She loved short races, so we decided to breed her to a Quarter Horse. Peighntmeadiamond was so big when he was born.”
Swingwiththering has a yearling half-sister to the Maturity winner by Maryland Magic and both are now owned by KIm Traviss and family in Prince Edward County.
Tavares won three races on Wednesday to stretch his lead on the trainer’s list to 18 to 12 over Jason Pascoe and Scott Reid.
